Blood Donation
There is no substitute to human blood, and we all know it.
India has 1 lakh thalassemia patients and 10,000 children with that disorder are born every year, India relies heavily on transfusions of donated blood due to an innate higher prevalence of blood-borne diseases and complications during pregnancy. Every day 12,000 people in India die due to the sheer lack of donated blood. India collects 11 million units of blood but needs 15 million units, so there’s a deficit of 4 million units.
Donating blood is same as donating life
We observed that some myths about blood donation refrain people from donating blood voluntarily. One of the most common myths about voluntary blood donation is that it reduces blood in your body, thereby impacting your immune system or that it makes you weak and impacts your health and well-being. Sadly, even the educated are easily influenced by such falsehoods. We realized that it is the need of the hour to spread awareness about blood donation among people.
How we made a difference
We have taken initiatives to eliminate the fear of blood donation from the minds of people, we started creating awareness and motivating people to come forward to donate blood whenever needed, which resulted in people realizing the importance of blood donation. To amplify the impact we started organizing blood donation camps in Raipur, today we organize two blood donation camps every year, which has proved to be very beneficial for those who are suffering from any blood disease and are unable to arrange blood.
Now success has been achieved and people in urban areas are eager to donate blood, we are trying to make sure that people in rural areas also realize the importance of blood donation, so they don’t have to suffer when there’s an emergency for blood, we feel so proud that our efforts have helped save hundreds of lives.
